Machaya Oaxaca Bed and Breakfast
Our Oaxaca bed and breakfast provides a spacious full level
of our hillside home, with panoramic vistas, complete privacy,
and all amenities:
-
fully equipped eat-in kitchen with pine table and four chairs;
- landscaped
patio with padded lawn chairs, freestanding umbrella and
hand-hewn stone table and four chairs;
- bedsittingroom
with queen-size bed, futon, 3 piece wicker settee, cable
TV with DVD, night tables, lamp and ceiling fan;
- optional
adjoining small extra bedroom with full size bunk beds;
- 3
piece washroom.
Were
both child and senior friendly. In fact if traveling with
infants or young children, were pleased to offer the
use of a quality crib with all accessories, high chair, car
seat and stroller. Contact
us for further details including babysitting.
Your Canadian hosts spent four years building their home using
a Oaxacan architect so youre assured of classic Mexican
flare, color and design, yet with all the conveniences of
home without any cultural surprises:
- an
abundance of hot water for showering;
- unlimited
purified drinking water;
- as
well as the little things for the kitchen such as coffee
maker, toaster, microwave, electric juicer and the usual
appliances and kitchen requirements;
- even
a comfy cot for taking a late afternoon snooze.
Our
traditional adobe-stone-brick construction, and our breezy
location just above the citys downtown area ensure moderate
temperatures year-round. Awake to the sounds of rooster calls
and typical music echoing across the valley, yet youre
only minutes from the zócalo, the heart of downtown
Oaxaca with its art galleries, museums, colonial churches
and restaurants. Our accommodations combine the service and
comfort of a modern Oaxaca hotel, with the personal touch
of a quaint country inn.
Available services include:
- airport
transportation;
- laundry
facilities;
- complimentary
high speed internet access;
- private
cooking lessons by a reknowned native Oaxacan chef who regularly
receives international critical acclaim;
- tour
guiding for day trips to the craft villages (black pottery
or barro negro at San Bartolo Coyotepec, rugs or tapetes
at Teotitlán del Valle, cotton textiles, alebrijes
at San Martín Tilcajete, clay figures of the Aguilar
sisters, and more), towns on their market days (Tlacolula
and Ocotlán), ruins (Monte Albán, Mitla, Yagul),
mezcal factories of Matatlán and the mountain regions,
and many sites off-the-beaten-track such as stone sculptor
and knifemaker workshops, and the bubbling springs at Hierve
el Agua.
- hiking,
cycling and ecotourism advice and planning assistance.

Once again, thank you so much! We so enjoyed our time
in Oaxaca and Casa Machaya. Speaking for all of us, your in-depth
knowledge of the culture was certainly a bonus for us. We
could not have asked for a more accommodating host.
Linda Breslin, Baltimore, MD
Thanks
again, to both of you, for making a long-anticipated dream
vacation a reality. You are great people, and we were
fortunate to stay at your place.
Kristine Hansen, Winnipeg, Manitoba
Just
sending you a little note to say what a great time we had
in Oaxaca. We could not have done it without you
we
cannot thank you enough. You were such kind hosts and so knowledgeable
about the area. You really gave us a great flavour for the
region.

Our
touring clients write:
To say you were one of the highlights of our trip is
to say the LEAST!! Being guided by you was like having our
private anthropologist / archaeologist / ethnographer. Not
to mention the fact that you have forged warm, personal relationships
with some of the most interesting and exciting people in Oaxaca
and generously shared them with us. We felt very safe in your
hands, too, due to your knowledge and understanding of customs
and law. When I lost my exit visa, you knew just what to do
and whom to contact. I could keep going on but will end by
saying that on a scale of one to ten, Alvin, youre a
twenty! Lisa Kaneshiro, Hilo, Hawaii
You
enriched our trip immeasurably, and left us yearning for a
return visit.
Charles DeFanti, New York
We
cant thank you enough for the wonderful service you
provided. We are rich with memories. Charles &
Brenda Heisroth, Uniontown, OH
